Turkey opens its border
Tensions rise as Turkey opens its border with the European Union and encourages migrants and refugees to try to cross into Greece.
This week has seen tensions rise as a new migrant crisis develops on the border between Turkey and Greece. This follows the announcement by Turkey鈥檚 president that his country would no longer stop migrants and refugees from trying to enter Greece. Jonah Fisher speaks to people on the Turkish side of the border.
Israelis went to the polls this week for their third election in just a year. The forecasts of an end to Benjamin Netanyahu鈥檚 run as leader have proved too hasty though, as he claimed victory with the largest number of votes on Monday. But his path to government is not guaranteed. He鈥檚 facing criminal charges and he鈥檚 failed to win a decisive vote or form a stable coalition twice already. And the opposition is calling for new legislation to prevent a ruling prime minister serving while indicted. Anna Foster asks how he has survived politically for so long.
It鈥檚 been nearly three years since the war-torn Iraqi city of Mosul was liberated from Islamic State. As locals try to rebuild their city and their lives, their efforts are hampered by high level corruption and jobs and money are scarce. But as Lorraine Mallinder discovers they still have plenty of entrepreneurial spirit.
As the spread of the coronavirus escalates around the world more countries are closing schools. Italy has told pupils to stay at home and in China the schools haven鈥檛 been open since Chinese New Year. We hear from Yvonne Murray about the challenges of having to home school her children.
