Dr Victor Lukarevsky

Victor has been protecting big cats for over thirty years.

Victor was born in Moldavia when it was still part of the Soviet Union. For three decades as a wildlife biologist he has studied and protected big cats. As well as Siberian tigers he has studied leopards including the critically endangered far eastern (or Amur) leopard.

Victor has worked all over Central Asia, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, southern Siberia, Mongolia, and in the Caucasus.

Today he is a senior member of the Russian Academy of Science鈥檚 Permanent Expedition dedicated to the study of the Amur tiger. He spends several months a year in the Russian far east .

Victor says:

"For 30 years I have been involved in the conservation of big cats. Giving up? It鈥檚 not my way. I tell myself, as long my legs will support my body I will go into the field."
