Nina Conti & Monk

Comedia Nina Conti, and her puppet sidekick Monk, are dancing for Comic Relief!

Nina is best known for her comedy ventriloquist act which she started in 2002 and shot to fame by winning numerous awards the same year for her writing, acting and ventriloquism. On stage she is joined by her sidekick Monk, who is a depressed and cynical monkey. He continually insults Conti during their performance. He often disagrees with her, swears at her and if things aren鈥檛 going his way he disappears into his bag and declares, 鈥測ou鈥檙e on your own, b****!鈥 She has taken her performances worldwide including to America, Canada and Australia and has appeared on big shows such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show in October 2012.

Nina鈥檚 ventriloquist career started by accident when the theatre actor, writer and director Ken Campbell, bought her a 鈥榯each yourself to be a ventriloquist鈥 set that she initially wanted to return, but tried and enjoyed. When Ken died in 2008, he left her his entire collection of puppets. Nina comes from an acting background, her parents Tom Conti and Kara Wilson are both actors.

Nina has appeared in several television shows, including , ,, and . Most recently, Nina fronted a film called in 2012 which she was awarded Best Performance in the Maverick Movie Awards.

As a comedian, Nina regularly headlines UK and London comedy venues and has previously appeared at and . In 2002, Nina won the 麻豆社 and came second in the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year award. In 2007, she took her first solo full length show Complete and Utter Conti to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Montreal Comedy Festival and to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, where she won the Barry Award.

Nina lives in London with her husband, Stan, who is also a stand-up comedian, and her two sons.

In 2013, Nina will star alongside Chris O鈥橠owd in a new 麻豆社 Two comedy called Family Tree.
