Cost to make social housing fire safe 'means 1 in 10 new properties won't be built'
Newsnight has seen new figures which point to what could be a significant reduction in the amount of social housing that can be built over the next decade.
The bill to make council and housing association properties fire safe - under the new building safety regulations - is coming in at an estimated £18bn.
The National Housing Federation tells Newsnight that means nearly 1 in 10 - around 13,000 - new properties now won't be built over the next five years.
Policy editor Lewis Goodall reports.
