Nine McCartney - I Am God
I Am God explores the ideas of self and power. McCartney expresses anger at the realities of his surroundings, and his working class experience in western society, whilst heavily referencing black and religious culture.
This is a poem about the power of self, when everything around you is seemingly falling apart.
Words First is a talent development scheme run by 麻豆社 Arts, Radio 1Xtra and the Contains Strong Language poetry festival. Each year it identifies the best emerging spoken word talent in the UK and, through workshops and performance showcases, encourages the development of new work. These films with the Words First finalists centre on work around the 2020 theme of Protest.
