Knife Crime Debate: Part 2
PM has been taking a closer look at knife crime, with a series of reports by Andrew Bomford. Those pieces featured Michelle McPhillips whose son Jonathon James (JJ) was fatally stabbed in North London two years ago.
PM wanted to examine some of the issues raised in more depth and to do so the programme hosted a public meeting in Islington where JJ was attacked.
Members of the local community joined a panel of experts and politicians including Emily Thornberry, Labour MP for Islington South; Shaun Bailey, Conservative candidate for the 2020 London Mayoral election, Sir Michael Wilshaw, former head of Ofsted; the Chief Executive of Barnardos, Javed Khan; Mark Simmons, Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner and pupil barrister Twanieka Alcindor.
JJ's Mother Michelle also spoke about her son's death and the audience were invited to share their experiences and observations of knife crime and gangs.
