Lesotho's multi-billion dollar medical marijuana industry
The government has granted a number of international companies licenses to grow, distribute and to export marijuana-based products. Lesotho has become a particular hotspot for Canadian firms, who have found the country’s climate and low labor costs ideal for expanding their businesses. This year The Supreme Cannabis Company invested $10 million into Medigrow, giving them 10 % of the business.
While international companies have flocked to Lesotho to invest in the burgeoning medical marijuana industry, what about the small-scale farmers, are they being left out? A license to grow the plant costs over $10 000, and farmers like these find these find costs prohibitive.
