Challenging the French burkini beach ban
The controversial issue of burkinis on French beaches is being taken to court today by a civil rights group.
This week pictures emerged of armed police appearing to force a woman on a beach in Nice to partially undress for breaching the ban, which was introduced by some mayors on clothes that "ostentatiously display religious affiliation".
The photos caused a huge debate on social media with many people highly critical of the French approach.
Joanna Gosling spoke to Rachid Nekka, a businessman who pays fines imposed on Muslim women in France, Selsabil Beloued, a student who wears burkinis, Stefan De Vries, a French journalist and Esmat Jeraj, a British Muslim campaigner.
