Belgrave Road, Buttons & Christmas Carols.

Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.

Major changes could be coming to one of the busiest routes in and out of Leicester. The City Council have proposed several ideas to revamp Belgrave Road which include fewer traffic lights, less congestion and lifting the smog from cars. But the big change on the Golden Mile could mean instead of 4 lanes of traffic, there'll be just 2. The City Council is hoping the changes will cut congestion, making the area safer and more attractive for shoppers and cyclists.
Also, picture Leicester's Wellington Street back in the 1920s to the 1970's...it was a busy street alive with factories making knitwear and clothing which was sent all over the world. And at the heart of it was WN Gutteridge, a buttons and trimmings dyer and merchants. The firm has been there for nearly a hundred years but now its finally finally leaving and moving to new, smaller premises elsewhere. 麻豆社 Radio leicester's Bridget Blair has been to see the Victorian building, virtually untouched by time...to meet Michael Gutteridge. And, as she's been finding out, its not easy clearing nearly a hundred years of history and thousands of boxes of buttons.
And, it's the first of December, which means the beginning of Advent and time for us to open our very special Advent Calendar. Throughout December we'll be opening a door everyday to reveal a Christmas Carol, specially recorded for us by School Children here in Leicestershire and Rutland taking part in the Cathedral's Diosing programme.
