Jonathan Pryce: The Merchant of Venice is ‘very relevant’ today
Jonathan Pryce is currently appearing on stage at the Globe Theatre as Shakespeare's Shylock in The Merchant of Venice – a play about European anti-Semitism.
He describes the play as "about fear of the alien, the immigrant” and said it was “very, very relevant” because of what is happening politically and socially in the world today.
“I’ve never liked the play, ever,” he admitted to the 鶹’s Andrew Marr, but added, “I really like it now”.
Mr Pryce also recently played Cardinal Wolsey in Wolf Hall and was the latest big name to star in Game of Thrones.
