University students sign up to work with the Yi minority in the mountains (pt 1/4)
For the past four years, students from Sichuan University have been operating a one-year voluntary scheme to work as assistant teachers in the countryside. This is part of a national campaign to reduce poverty and improve education in China's remote rural areas. We follow three young male students as they embark on their journey to Daliangshan, the 'Great Cool Mountains', home to the Yi, one of China's largest ethnic minorities. There, they'll see traditions and a way of life that are very different from what their own. The next twelve months promise to be a life-changing experience.
