University students volunteer to work with the Yi minority in the mountains (pt 2/4)
Improving education is a major factor in reducing poverty. For the children of the Yi people, schooling has been difficult as many of them live in isolated mountainous regions. Today, the students from Sichuan University try their hand at teaching and meet some challenges. Mandarin, the national language, is quite foreign to the children and Health and Hygiene even more alien. Furthermore, teaching is hampered by the fact that there are no textbooks and, often, not even desks or chairs. A football and skipping rope brought as gifts by the students from their university are luxuries to these mountain children.
