Local democracy - town council and unitary authority
In Yorkshire, two teenage friends who want to improve local bus services for people of their age visit Bridlington Town Council and East Riding Unitary Authority, to ask for help with their campaign. Through their story, viewers learn about how the role and responsibilities of local authorities differs across England, and what a unitary authority does. East Riding Council offers the teenagers 拢5,000 to support their campaign. But the friends are also told that there is a limit to what the council can do, because the bus services are run by a private company. Through a tour of the area, viewers are given visual examples of the main responsibilities of Bridlington Town Council and East Riding Unitary Authority.
