Passion for wildlife
Teenagers Paul and Ryan Edwards live in Suffolk and are passionate about wildlife filming. They spend early mornings and evenings out in the countryside looking for wildlife to film. By installing a nest box near to their home they have attracted a barn owl and they have asked cameraman Gordon Buchanan along so they can all film it together. There is no sign of the barn owl when Gordon arrives, but by checking out his pellets they can see the type of things the owl has been eating, and red fur indicates it might be bank voles. Waiting for the barn owl to show gives the boys plenty of time to quiz Gordon on how to become a wildlife cameraman, and show him some of their own camerawork. Their mum acts as a spotter and field assistant, letting the team know when the barn owl has returned to the nest box and allowing them to get some great shots of him at the nest and then quartering the field looking for prey.
