Chinese deer
After many days of frustration, dogged by late rains and bad light, capturing the milu's unique creching behaviour was topped by an unexpected filming coup. Such is their affinity with water, the deer both submerge their heads to feed on waterweed and even fall asleep, only waking with a start when they need to breathe. Local scientists were thrilled with these first images of the underwater foraging.
