Amadeus Finlay, Boxing in Kilkeel and... Cabbages
Helen Mark presents Â鶹Éç Radio Ulster’s weekly Ulster-Scots magazine show alongside Rab Lennox, Jonnie Crawford and Willie Hill.
This week, filmmaker, writer and actor Amadeus Finlay talks about his journey from Ballyclare to Connecticut and how he finds stone walls to be a constant reminder of the Ulster-Scots links in that part of the US! There’s a report from boxing training at the Schomberg Society in Kilkeel and a catch up with piper Robert Kirkland BEM after his name was included in the New Year’s Honours List. Meanwhile, Kintra welcomes 97 year old Maghera farmer John Joe McKenna who talks to Helen about an unusual agricultural connection between ourselves and the Scots – the art of growing cabbages – and the unusual purpose they served!
As always, listeners are invited to contact the programme with a good Ulster-Scots yarn or event to talk about. The easiest way to do that is by email - kintra@bbc.co.uk.
