Technology promises us a very different future but will it mean longer working lives?
Do you remember those dreams of retiring at 50 or even earlier? They seem to be receding by the day and the reality appears to be that we will all have much longer working lives in the future. This week the Bank of England Governor Mark Carney told a Dublin audience that the Fourth Industrial Revolution - heralding artificial intelligence and robotics - is a huge threat to employment security and will mean more of us having a number of jobs and roles throughout our career. Are we doing enough to prepare for this revolution? Is it inevitable? Should we try to hold it back or is that like holding back the tide and what will the impact be on life in general?
