An Horrific Equilibrium
An horrific equilibrium - over 800 million people starving, over 700 million obese. What radical steps have to be taken to change the face of the world?
This week brought news that the world is close to reaching a horrific equilibrium - with almost equal numbers starving to those fighting obesity. The figures are stark - around 800 million in desperation over food and over 700 million morbidly obese. The reasons behind both sets of figures are themselves grim reading; wars, famine, climate change and even taxation and technology. Accepting the figures is one thing - changing them is another. How radical is the world, individual governments and each of us prepared to be? Presenter Audrey Carville discusses with Siobhan Hanley from Self Help Africa (formerly War on Want), the economist John Simpson and from Mission Africa, Presbyterian Minister the Reverend Paul Bailie.
