Call You and Yours: Should we take more responsibility for our elderly relatives?

Winifred Robinson hosts a phone-in on caring for elderly relatives. Is it everyone's duty to take more responsibility?

Should we take more responsibility for our elderly relatives?

On Monday's You & Yours we heard how the local council and the NHS in St Helens on Merseyside are trying to bring health and social care services together to help fix a strained and expensive system. Staff hope the new way of working will keep people coping better at home for longer. They also told us it's important to understand that the need for care can't be put off forever. The care minister David Mowat, who has praised the work being done in St Helens, is also suggesting families should accept more responsibility.

So do we ALL have a duty to do more to care for our elderly parents? Are you doing it already? Or do you feel guilty because you can't?

We want to hear your experience, email now to youandyours@bbc.co.uk - and please include your phone number so we can call you back.
