Tom chats to composer, pianist, producer and remixer Max Richter. His new album is an 8 hour piece entitled Sleep, which is intended to make the listener do just that. He is a neo-classical artist, blending classical orchestration with modern technology.
He was born in Germany and brought to Britain as a small boy; his first gigs were The Clash and Kraftwerk. He began his career as a founding member of Piano Circus, a contemporary classical group that played and commissioned works by Steve Reich, Arvo P盲rt, Philip Glass and Brian Eno. After collaborations with The Future Sound of London and Roni Size, he released his first solo album Memoryhouse in 2002. The Blue Notebooks followed in 2004 to critical acclaim, and his work ahs continued to be well received. In 2012 he recomposed Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. His music has been used in numerous soundtracks, and his film scores include the award-winning Waltz With Bashir from 2007.
