Director Christopher Nolan discusses how he uses music in his films.

Christopher is currently one of the most highly regarded film-makers in Hollywood, making a string of commercial hits for the discerning cinema-goer. Having made his directorial debut with Following in 1999, he gained considerable attention for his second feature, Memento. The acclaim of these independent films afforded Christopher the opportunity to make the big-budget thrillers Insomnia and The Prestige. He found further popular and critical success with The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and most recently Interstellar, which is hotly tipped for success during the awards season. Christopher has co-written several of his films with his brother, Jonathan, and runs the production company Syncopy Inc. with his wife Emma Thomas.

Here he chats to Edith about his collaborations with the legendary Hans Zimmer and his fondness for David Bowie and Radiohead, as well as giving us an insight into the role music plays in forming the aesthetic of his work.
