Lawrence Zazzo (countertenor)
Simon Lepper (piano)
A typically adventurous and iconoclastic recital - entitled 'Sacred and Profane' - from American singer Lawrence Zazzo. In the company of pianist Simon Lepper he moves from the heart of countertenor repertoire and the music of Purcell (albeit refracted through the musical imagination of Benjamin Britten) into vocal realms not usually associated with his type of voice and the music of Mussorsky and Poulenc. Completing the programme, a pair of works by living composers - including the world premiere of Iain Bell's Shakespeare-themed new song cycle.
