George Papaconstantinou - Greek Finance Minister (2009-2011)
Sarah Montague talks to former Greek finance minister, George Papaconstantinou. Greece's parliament voted that he should face criminal charges, but is he being made a scapegoat?
Sarah Montague speaks to Greece's former finance minister, George Papaconstantinou. Three years ago, he was handed a list of 2,000 possible tax evaders, but did not make it public. When a copy of the list was made public, it was missing the names of three of his relatives. This was the man who was negotiating Greece's bailout and, with it, imposing massive cutbacks in his country. Last month Greece's parliament voted that he should face criminal charges for tampering with the list, for breach of trust and breach of public duty. He says he is innocent, has been framed, and is being made a scapegoat.
