Sean Rafferty presents music from the 2010 West Cork Chamber Music Festival. Beethoven: Violin Sonata No 5 in F (Spring). Schumann: Piano Trio No 3 in G minor.

Sean Rafferty concludes this series of Radio 3 Lunchtime Concert from the 2010 West Cork Chamber Music Festival with works by Beethoven and Robert Schumann. Husband and wife duo, Vadim Gluzman and Angela Yoffe, perform the fifth of Beethoven's ten violin sonatas, Op. 24, Spring. The title, Spring, isn't credited to Beethoven but it does reflect the immediacy and freshness of the music which is entirely appropriate to the beautiful surroundings of Bantry, the coastal town where the festival takes place each year. The series concludes with a performance given by a dynamic young trio led by Scottish violinist, Nicola Benedetti - Robert Schumann's Piano Trio No. 3, Op. 110, is a work which his wife, Clara, wrote about after its first rehearsal in 1851, 'It is original and increasingly passionate, especially the scherzo, which carries one along with it into the wildest depths'.
