A pregnant teenager and her feckless mother trade insults and repartee in 1950s Salford. With Siobhan Finneran and Beth Squires.

A pregnant teenage girl and her feckless mother trade insults and repartee in 1950s Salford.

One of the great stage plays of the 20th century. It鈥檚 a powerful story of a teenage pregnancy set in a backdrop of post-war austerity, discrimination and homophobia.

Dramatist Shelagh Delaney was just 19 years-old when she wrote this, her debut novel. It was soon adapted for stage and debuted at Joan Littlewood鈥檚 Theatre Royal Stratford East in 1958, before becoming an award-winning film in 1961.
