Ten To The Top

Get all the details of Radio 2’s brand new weekday pop quiz, where it pays to answer the questions correctly in order. Ten To The Top will test our listeners’ music knowledge as they battle for pop supremacy, with each daily winner receiving a smart speaker. Listen live at 10:30am each weekday, or catch-up later with the Ten To The Top podcast.

  • Each player will be asked 10 questions about pop music.

  • Question 1 is worth 1 point if answered correctly, question 2 is worth 2 points, question 3 is worth 3 points all the way up to 10.

  • However, if a question is answered incorrectly the value of the following question goes back to 1 point again, then the next question is 2 points if answered correctly, and so on.

  • Each contestant has a Joker to play and for that question they’ll get double points if its answered correctly.

  • The player with the most points wins a smart speaker – if it’s a draw there will be a tie-breaker question.

  • If both contestants get the same score the winner will be decided by a ‘closest to’ question which will have been asked, off air, before the quiz starts.

Ten To The Top - Terms and Conditions

Updated 8th March 2024

1. Ten to the Top is a quiz open to all residents (over 18 years of age) of the UK, including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, except Â鶹Éç Group employees, their close relatives and anyone connected with the competition.

2. Ten to the Top will be run daily during the Vernon Kay programme on Â鶹Éç Radio 2. Entry to the quiz is either by

  • email at any time with the entrant’s name and contact number to tentothetop@bbc.co.uk (or 10tothetop@bbc.co.uk); or,
  • Whatsapp text message us on 08000 288 291 starting your message with the word “Joker” followed by your name.

3. All entrants put through to play on air must supply their name, postal address, and a daytime contact telephone number.

4. We will only accept one entry per person, per day by either entry method, not both. Subsequent entries by the same person on the same day will be disregarded. Entrants will be called back to qualify to compete in the quiz based on their entry email/whatsapp and their response to why they should get to play. If you do not hear from us or we have not been able to get in touch with you after reasonable attempts, you have been unsuccessful in reaching the qualifying stage and may try again another day.

5. Each entrant called back will initially be asked 5 questions to test their pop music knowledge and may be asked about their interests and hobbies. Contestants may be asked additional questions on their pop music knowledge and will be selected on how many questions they answer correctly, how lively and interesting they will sound on air and how recently they have appeared on Radio 2. Fewer than three correct answers will mean a contestant is ineligible to take part in the on-air competition. Two contestants will be chosen to take part in each day's edition of Ten to the Top and will be told which day they will be taking part in the competition. Each competition will be pre-recorded on a show day and may be edited before being transmitted on the following show or a later date. If a selected entrant is unavailable at the time the competition is to be recorded, their participation will end and another entrant will be selected to take part in the on air quiz. If you have not been successful in becoming an on-air contestant at the qualifying stage, you can apply again only after 28 days from entering.

6. The two selected contestants for the day will each answer a series of 10 questions and be awarded points based on the number of correct consecutive answers and as described on air. The contestant with the most points at the end of the round is the winner.

7. The prize for winning Ten to the Top will include a Smart Speaker. The runner-up will receive a Radio 2 branded mug. There may be an additional prize for those contestants achieving the maximum score to be described on air by the presenter. In all cases, there is no cash alternative and the prize is not transferable. Entrants will listen to the on-air description for the specific prize available at time of entry.

8. The Â鶹Éç's decision as to contestants taking part is final. No correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into.

9. Each winner will be notified on air at the end of each day's Ten to the Top. Their name will be broadcast and they may appear on a Ten to the Top leader board online and on social media.

10. Entrants can decline to take part in any post-competition publicity.

11. The Â鶹Éç reserves the right to cancel or vary Ten to the Top at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise beyond its control.

12. Contestants chosen to play on-air will not be allowed to enter Ten to the Top for the following 24 months.

13. Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these rules and to agree to be bound by them when entering this competition.

14. The competition is run by the Â鶹Éç. The applicable law is that of England and Wales.

15. On-air contestants must not receive any help in answering the questions and the Â鶹Éç reserves the right to disqualify any contestant it suspects of cheating.

16. The Â鶹Éç, its sub-contractors, subsidiaries, affiliates and/or agencies cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem which may result in any entry not being properly registered.

17. To the extent permitted by law, the Â鶹Éç will not be liable for any loss or damage (whether such damage or losses were foreseen, foreseeable, known or otherwise) including financial, reputational loss or disappointment.

18. This competition accords with the Â鶹Éç's Code of Conduct for Competitions and Voting. Details of which can be found
