LG Eco-City Garden
Designed by Hay-Joung Hwang
This garden harmonises the increased presence and dependancy on technology in our daily lives, with an increasing awareness of the environmental issues and responsibilities we face in reducing pollution in modern urban lifestyles.
With increased pressure to work harder and longer hours, respite from the ‘daily grind’ is needed more than ever before. To make better use of the spaces we inhabit, the garden features an outside kitchen to bring us closer to our gardens and reinforce the importance of the indoor / outdoor living concept.
The central premise of the garden is to demonstrate how we can make a positive impact on our daily lives by more effectively integrating building architecture and garden design. With scientific studies showing that 54% of the world's population currently live in cities and urban areas, air born particles and air pollution is becoming an increasingly significant social problem.
The 'LG Eco-city' garden aims to tackle this by balancing aesthetic demands with a requirement to reduce energy usage and move firmly towards the removal of pollution with a proportion of the trees, shrub and herbaceous species selected specifically for their ability both to tolerate and reduce air pollution.
