Hunter
Nathan Constance

Hunter, a new two-part drama from Â鶹Éç Drama Production for Â鶹Éç One

Nathan Constance – DC Connor

When Nathan Constance was given the script of Hunter to read for the part of DC Connor, he loved it so much he found he couldn't put it down.

Ìý

"It's hard sometimes when the nature of what you're dealing with is quite dark. You get torn as an actor – you're relishing what you're reading because you know how complex and well done it is, but at the same time you feel uncomfortable because what you're reading is so sad."

Ìý

Nathan explains that the strength of the story lies in its exploration of a difficult moral dilemma, where there are no easy right or wrong answers.

Ìý

"I like the way that this story dances around the grey area of what we think we should be doing morally. It doesn't necessarily give you any answers which is a beautiful thing. It doesn't make a statement about any of these choices; it just follows a bunch of people as they struggle with dealing with some of the most tragic things in people's lives."

Ìý

Nathan describes his character DC Connor as a bit of an idealist who feels hampered by the constraints of the bigger system.

Ìý

"Connor is a PC who's climbed his way up, he got into the job for all the right reasons. I think he thought he could make a difference, so he made a bee line for the CID, but he finds it frustrating because although it's his job to uphold the law, he sometimes feels straight-jacketed by it.

Ìý

"This is especially so where it gets to cases of this kind, where you've got kids involved – he struggles to keep his emotions in check."

Ìý

Whilst Connor's straightforward attitude sometimes leaves him feeling frustrated, it adds a positive dimension to the team.

Ìý

"Connor has got a lot of energy, and I think Barclay understands that the team needs a bit of that kind of enthusiasm to cut through all the rubbish."

Ìý

Playing the part of DC Connor has given Nathan a greater understanding of the work that the police do, and "what it must be like to be in their shoes; the bureaucracy and the hugeness of their task.

Ìý

"I appreciate them a lot more. I would want someone like Connor to be out there if something happened. If I lost my child or spouse I'd want somebody out there looking who was prepared to do whatever they could to get them back."
