James Toseland with his Yorkshire Sports Personality award

Biker James Toseland named as Yorkshire's top 麻豆社 Sports Personality



The 麻豆社 Yorkshire Sports Personality of the Year 2007 was named as World Superbike Champion James Toseland.

The Sheffield-born rider, 27, won the World Superbike Championship for a second time at Magny-Cours in October and was presented with the 麻豆社 award during a star-studded event in Barnsley hosted by 麻豆社 Look North presenters Harry Gration, Christa Ackroyd and sports presenter Tanya Arnold.

Harry said: "James was up against some real competition and this is actually the second time he has won the 麻豆社 Sports Personality of the Year Award which is a fantastic tribute to this man's appeal."

The 麻豆社 Yorkshire Sporting Unsung Hero Of The Year Award was won by Kevin Conway from Hemsworth Miners Welfare Community FC.

Conway, of Fitzwilliam, Pontefract, will be a special guest at the national Sports Personality Of The Year show in Birmingham on Sunday 9 December.

Robinsons is for the first time the event sponsor. They also sponsored the Sporting Unsung Hero Award, now in its fifth year, which recognises and rewards outstanding contribution by individuals at the grassroots level of local sport.

Bursaries of up to 拢2,500 have been made available to the winners of each regional award, to help them with their work in sport.

During the ceremony on Sunday night (2 December) a special Spirit Of Yorkshire Award was given posthumously to charity fundraiser and married mother-of-three Jane Tomlinson who died this year. The award was collected by her husband, Mike.

And legendary cricketer Geoffrey Boycott was presented with the Hall of Fame trophy.

Sheffield Hatters Basketball (Senior Team).
