Big changes to evenings on Radio Ulster will be music to listeners' ears



The Late Show


Whether you like easy-listening or rock 'n' roll, classics or more contemporary tracks, your sure to find music to you're taste on The Late Show on Â鶹Éç Radio Ulster.

Going out on Radio Ulster six nights a week, Mondays through to Saturdays, from 10pm-12am, The Late Show boasts four music experts who love nothing more than to share their record collections with those who are tuning in in the later hours.

There is an undeniable common thread of quality music played throughout all The Late Shows. However, the musical tastes of presenters Cherrie McIlwaine, Eamon Friel, Stuart Bailie and Karen Kirby ensures that each of their respective shows will take the listeners on a different musical journey.

The Late Show with Cherrie McIlwaine

Ìý

From Monday to Wednesday nights from 10pm, Radio Ulster listeners can hear The Late Show with Cherrie McIlwaine, who has been presenting the programme for more than 15 years.

Ìý

For two hours on each if these three nights a week, Cherrie plays what she calls "heart songs and head songs", offering a wide range of melodic music which is sure to strike a chord with listeners of all ages.

Cherrie, who also presents Gardeners' Corner on Radio Ulster, says: "Late night radio and late night music make absolutely perfect bedfellows. I really love putting together the Late Show play list, particularly when it gives me an opportunity to feature musicians who are less likely to be heard during the day.

The Late Show with Eamon Friel

On Thursday nights, listeners can tune into The Late Show with Eamon Friel.

Ìý

Singer, songwriter and broadcaster, Eamon Friel, who broadcasts the programme from Â鶹Éç Radio Foyle where he has been a presenter for 20 years, has an extremely broad taste in music which he treats listeners to week in, week out.

Eamon says: "My Thursday night on Â鶹Éç Radio Ulster has been defined as "an opinionated guide to the music spectrum". That's true. There's jazz, trad Irish, blues, bluegrass, zydeco, show songs and folk and I play a surprising amount of contemporary music as well.

"It's a programme that delves a bit deeper, to inform, educate and entertain. Lord Reith is proud of me!"

The Late Show with Stuart Bailie

On Friday's nights at 10pm, it's The Late Show with Stuart Bailie where the respected music guru offers up the best in alternative music, soul, blues and Americana, playing everything from Dr John to Duke Special, by way of The New York Dolls, Primal Scream, Lambchop and Al Green.

Stuart also brings listeners interviews with some of the most highly-acclaimed acts around and features some live sessions.

Stuart says: "You'll find the great rarities, the classics and the important new releases here - music with depth and heart."

The Late Show with Karen Kirby

Ìý

And last, but not least, on Saturday nights, The Late Show with Karen Kirby sees Karen make her own mark on The Late Show format, adding her own musical tastes and some Irish language to the popular series.

Karen says: "The Late Show is a brilliant opportunity for me to share my experience and taste in music with our listeners.

Ìý

"I showcase lots of Irish singers and songwriters, whether it's pop, traditional, rock or soul, well known names or those starting out, I'd say they all deserve attention and I hope listeners agree.

Ìý

"I also introduce some contemporary singers performing in Irish."
