Little Britain comedian David Walliams may have swum the English Channel for Sport Relief back in 2006, but Jake Humphrey has lent his support to this year's campaign by putting on his trainers together with some special red socks and coming back home.

Jake, who grew up in Stoke Holy Cross, near Norwich, has become a familiar face to millions of football fans with his appearances on Â鶹Éç1'sÌý Football Focus and Final Score.

The former Hewett School pupil returned to the city to encourage people to take part in its Sport Miles event on Sunday, 16 March.

"There's a huge mile happening in Norwich and I want everybody to get involved," said Jake. "Don't sit at home and watch other people running a mile, get yourself some red socks by running around Norwich city."

He was joined for the photo call in Chapelfield Gardens by ex-Norwich City hero Jeremy Goss - who now works behind the scenes at the club - and he's encouraging both the players and fans to take part in the event.

"NCFC fully back the national Sport Relief campaign and would like to encourage Norwich City fans of all ages to get active and participate in the region's Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile," he said.

"It will be an ideal opportunity for both friends and family to join together for a fun day completing this sporting challenge and at the same time raise money towards such a worthwhile cause."

It doesn't matter whether you're a keen sprinter or Sunday stroller, everyone is welcome to take part in the event, whatever your level of fitness. People can sign up to walk one mile, three or six.

Two years ago, £18m was raised to help those in need in the UK and also people living in some of the world's poorest countries.

During his visit back home, Jake also got to meet some people who live at Norwich hostel Ed's Basement. Some of the hostel's residents are now benefiting from channelling their energies into kick-boxing - with the club receiving £2,000 from Sport Relief.

"I don't want want to go out and fight on the streets," said Jamie Leverett, who lives at Ed's Basement.

"I take the aggression out here. There should be more things like this," he added.
