One of Britain's most famous salmon spots lies close to the border between England and Scotland. The River Tweed and its tributaries in and around Berwick Upon Tweed are great places to watch these fish.

Nature watching:

Leaping Salmon - the best time to see salmon jumping is after a dry period followed by heavy rain - the fish wait for the best conditions. October and November are generally the best times.

The best place is Ettrick Weir where there are cameras and good viewing facilities for the public.

Bird watching - Grey Herons, Grey Wagtails. Mute Swans.

Visitor centre at Ettrick Weir on the River Tweed - live CCTV of underwater Salmon.

Access:

Disabled access varies according to location visited.

Tweedability 1 is a special fishing boat for disabled anglers which had been designed by the Wheelyboat Trust, the R.T.C. and the Tweed Foundation.

Getting there:

Berwick and the River Tweed are located in the Scottish Borders. If travelling from the south take the A1 from Newcastle up to Berwick. If coming from the north, take the A1 from Edinburgh.

Wheelchair friendly path and access to Ettrick Weir visitor centre.

Paxton House is located on the B6461 six miles west of Berwick.

Nearest rail station: Berwick upon Tweed.

The visitor centre at Ettrick Weir is open all year round, 9am-5pm.
