At the Loch of Strathbeg near Peterhead in Aberdeenshire there are 80,000 Pink footed Geese in residence during early autumn. That's a quarter of the world's population!

In addition, there is a huge variety and abundance of other wildfowl including Whooper Swans, Barnacle Geese, Widgeon and Teal as well as Golden Plovers and Lapwings.

This is a dune slack loch - the biggest of its type in the UK.

Facilities:

Visitor centre with trail guides and information.

Hot drinks available.

Tower Pool Hide provides panoramic views of the main goose roosting and feeding areas (dawn until dusk). Located 10 minute walk from the visitor centre.


Fen and Bay hides near Crimond Airfield (8 am-4 pm).

Access:

Disabled access: All access routes are being upgraded to make them suitable for users of all abilities. All hides and paths are being adapted for wheelchairs. Disabled toilets.

Getting there:

Located 20 minutes drive from Peterhead and 1 mile north of Crimond. Signposted from A90.

Nearest rail station: Inverurie (30 miles) - public transport links are difficult.

Nearest bus stop: Crimond village.

Opening times:

Visitor centre open daily 8 am-6 pm. Loch hides open 8am-4 pm daily, except Christmas and New Year's Day.
