Your Story: Joyce Toole at 21

You didn't need any special qualifications in those days. I was paid £1.17s 6d a week! I thought it was not fair in the least. I liked where I worked, apart from the pay, I liked it because I had lots of fun, and happy times. I worked with several girls of who I was not very close to.

We put food on the shelves. For work I wore an overall with pants and a T-shirt underneath. I started work at 8.00am, with an hour for Dinner in the middle and finished at 5.00pm.

When I was a young girl, I listened to Donald Pearce on the wireless, in my bedroom!(Donald Pearce was an old popstar)He was on the wireless all the time!
