Your Story: Working at the Ministry

I enjoyed this position very much and left when I was 20 after giving birth to my first daughter Dawn in 1961. I made many friends but unfortunately like all parts of life lost contact with them. Mary Scott and Edina Redpath were my two Supervisors and eventually we ended up good friends. While working in the Ministry I played on the ladies Cricket Team and really enjoyed this and remember how my mother used to come and watched us playing at home and our away matches. Although leaving this position was sad at the time I never regretted the future I had with my then first arrival Dawn. After 16 months of both my parents and myself and Les my husband enjoying my Daughter my dad died in the April 1963 and 31/12/63 my mother, husband, myself and Dawn went off to Australia. After 7 weeks there I got employment working for Chandlers [Elecs] again in the Office but this time on I.C.T. Punch Cards Machines which were so different to I.B.M. but after a while I really enjoyed both my job and making such lovely friends and until today I still have contact with Joan and thats after 37 years. Mind things really looked up once again for me in 1971 and being back in England from 1967 I once again I gave Birth to my second [and final] daughter Kim. Many nice things have occured for me in these years but now my happiness is my 7 Grandchildren who I love very much and we are a small but very HAPPY family indeed.
