The Local Studies Library collects all kinds of information relating to Hull and the surrounding area. Material held includes local newspapers from 1791 to the present; hundreds of photographs and illustrations, including portraits, aerial shots, local streets etc.; books and journals on all aspects of Hull and the East Riding, ancient and modern; local maps and plans, from around 1293 to present; census records; hull telephone directories from 1940 onwards.

TV Hull Local History Unit
The Local History Unit at Hull College is a local history research and publishing unit and local studies resource centre. Our files of information (built up over 16 years), publications, library and expertise can be of help to anyone researching aspects of local life - whether it be a school GCSE project, a family history enquirey, the background to a story in the local Press, advice on choosing a dissertation, topic, or guidance on locating that elusive old photograph.

Hull City Archives is responsible for the preservation of archives and records relating to all aspects of life within the City of Hull. The core of its holdings are the records of local government starting with the charter 1299 and including financial records from 1330 onwards, minutes of the governing body from about 1440, correspondence from 1500 as well as the records of the many specialised local government agencies - improvement commissions, poor law unions, school boards etc and the City Council itself with its vast range of functions past and present.
