It is not unusual for books and works of literature to cause controversy over their authenticity. The most recent example was 'The Hitler Diaries' - but throughout history there have been numerous examples. A famous case from Scotland was the exposure in 1825 of Hugh Campbell’s collection of love letters, which he had claimed were penned by Mary, Queen of Scots. But the king of literary controversy in Scotland is James MacPherson – whose tales of an ancient Scottish king, apparently a translation of ancient Gaelic manuscripts, caused a storm in the 18th Century. "There is a big rock near the entrance to the Sma' Glen in northern Perthshire known locally as Ossian's Grave. Is any more known about this?"
