About This Event
Join the Â鶹Éç Singers and conductor Nicholas Chalmers in the stunning surroundings of St Martin-in-the-Fields for a concert of reflective music to mark the end of the season of Remembrance.
At the heart of the programme is John Tavener’s Requiem Fragments, a sequence of short, intimate movements which alternate scoring and spiritual references. It is paired with other works by Tavener – his haunting and powerful Song for Athene, a Â鶹Éç commission for the Â鶹Éç Singers, arguably made famous by its inclusion in the funeral service of Diana, Princess of Wales.
Alongside music by Tavener is Barber’s own choral arrangement of his best-loved Adagio for Strings, and two reverential works by Kristina Arakelyan.
This concert is being recorded for future broadcast on Â鶹Éç Radio 3.
There is no interval.
Please note, Sofi Jeannin has had to withdraw from this concert due to illness. We are delighted that Nicholas Chalmers has been able to step in at short notice as conductor.
