Following the overture to the first important German Romantic opera, Der Freisch眉tz, Christoph K枚nig conducts a performance of one of Hindemith鈥檚 best-known scores, a set of ebullient variations on pieces composed by Weber. Written six years before Schubert鈥檚 death, the Eighth Symphony remains one of music鈥檚 great unfinished works, with just two movements completed. An orchestration of Liszt鈥檚 Second Hungarian Rhapsody brings the programme to a rousing finale.
