Concert Information
This evening, the Â鶹Éç Philharmonic are led by Jac van Steen, whose unique brand of energy and eclecticism has brought him much acclaim for his regular appearances with the Â鶹Éç Philharmonic and as Principal Guest conductor with the Â鶹Éç National Orchestra of Wales.
In the opening piece, we are transported to warmer climates with Elgar’s postcard from the Italian Riviera, In the South, before leading violinist, Tasmin Little, continues with Walton’s Violin Concerto.
This evening’s programme sees us drift up the Mediterranean as Bizet conjures up the sunlight, fragrance and passion of Spain, in extracts from Carmen. The orchestra conclude with a piece a little closer to home, Debussy's symphonic masterpiece, La Mer. A shimmering musical sketch, La Mer takes its inspiration from the sea, although not from the rolling waves of the Pacific or the Atlantic, but from the rather more unlikely locale of Eastbourne on the south coast of England.
