About This Event

Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) soloists on the International Artist Diploma course perform under the batons of RNCM student conductors with the Â鶹Éç Philharmonic Orchestra. This afternoon will no doubt be a defining experience at the start of their already illustrious careers.

Colombian conductor and pianist Maria Camila Barbosa Aristizábal started her studies in conducting in with Professors Jorge Salazar at Fundación Juan N. Corpas in Bogotá.
She has worked extensively with youth orchestras in Bogotá and was appointed chief conductor of the Cundinamarca-Bogotá Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in 2020, where she continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of musicians. Today she brings us Zoltan Kodaly’s beguiling Dances of Galánta, followed by a work from 18th century Irish Romantic composer John Field, who coined the term ‘Nocturne.’ Field’s Piano Concerto No. 5 is in the talented hands of Tyler Hay this afternoon. Tyler won the Dennis Loveland award in Kent at the age of 11 and has studied at Purcell School and Royal Northern College of Music.

Alexander Rebetge started his musical career as chorister at the Munich Boys Choir before continuing his studies in Germany, subsequently embarking on a varied and prestigious career there. In 2022 he was appointed Director of Music at St. Ann’s Church in Manchester and he studies orchestral conducting at RNCM. Today he conducts Charles Stanford’s Shamus O'Brian: Overture and Xiaogang Ye’s Concerto of Life (piano concerto), with pianist Yuanfan Yang, a First Class Graduate of the Royal Academy of Music.

Andreas Asiikkis conducts Michalis Andronikou’s Aphrodite and Nikos Skalkottas’s 5 Greek Dances. Andreas graduated first of his class in Orchestral Conducting from the Ionian University before pursuing further studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava through Erasmus+, before embarking on his studies in Manchester.
