Esteemed actress Sheila Hancock is one of the UK’s most respected actors, having appeared in numerous plays, musicals, television and films. But Sheila is a woman of many talents, having also directed and after the success of her autobiography, now penning her first novel.
Sheila is well placed to assist the Dorothys on their journey to the stage. As well as acting and directing numerous plays across the world, many of her stage roles have been in musical theatre, including her current role as ‘Mother Superior’ in Sister Act. She has also starred in musicals including Cabaret as ‘Fraulein Schneider’, ‘Miss Hannigan’ in Annie, ‘Mrs Lovett’ in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and ‘Momma Rose’ in Gypsy. And Sheila isn’t afraid of giving it her all – during Gypsy she fractured her hip performing a high kick!
As well as performing and directing, Sheila is an established writer, winning the Author of the Year award for her autobiography The Two of Us: My Life With John Thaw. She is now working on her first novel.
