One for the foodies

The National Trust in Wales will celebrate British Food Fortnight from the 19th of September to the 4th of October as part of it's ongoing commitment to using the finest local and seasonal food.

A recent local study showed that over 60% of the Trust's spend on food went straight to local suppliers worth in the region of £400,000 to the Welsh economy.

During the open season in Wales an astounding 133,949 cups of tea, 11,268 cream teas, and 140,902 pieces of home-made cake and scones!
Now in its eighth year, British food fortnight, and the recently established Welsh food fortnight celebrate the diverse and delicious range of food available on our doorsteps.

From the freshest locally caught crab to tender organically reared beef, and delicious fruit and vegetables the Trust's tea rooms across Wales pride themselves in serving up seasonal dishes from food grown in their own kitchen gardens and estates, as well as the very best locally sourced produce.

20 September
: Food & Farming Day at Llanerchaeron, near Aberaeron, 12pm - 4pm. Demonstrations, displays, talks and an opportunity to meet experts and animals close up

3-4 October: Apple Festival at Erddig, near Wrexham.From William Tell, Sir Isaac Newton and Granny Smith to Dai Chef's cookery demonstrations and a cider apple press it can only mean one thing, it's time for Erddig's annual Apple Festival.

Celebrate Erddig's increasingly popular apple harvest with cider tasting apple press demonstrations dancers, games over 120 varieties of Erddig apples on show and lots more for all the family.

3 October: Sugarcraft Demonstration at Penrhyn Castle, Bangor. Learn the delicate art of making cake decorations with Joy Roberts.

24, 28, 31 October: Cider Making Demonstration at Llanerchaeron, Ceredigion
Demonstrations and tastings with Toloja Orchards.

29 October: Apple Cookery Demonstrations at Llanerchaeron, near Aberaeron, 2pm - 3.15pm. Gareth Richards returns to Llanerchaeron for his annual apple extravaganza. Sweet and Savoury delights are prepared in his own unique style.

30 October: Pudding Evening at Powis Castle, near Welshpool, 7pm - 10.30pm. Take along your friends to this very special evening of pure indulgence.

Following a small savoury supper six puddings will be presented by our two chefs. Vote for your favourite pudding and see if it wins.

October 20th: Seasonal Cookery event in Aberdaron supported by Aberdaron Seafood ltd - at the Ship Inn Aberdaron starting at 7.00pm.

Local award winning chef Marco Felipe will be tempting the taste buds with local Autumnal seafood dishes for you to try out at home. Cost £4.00 to include refreshments.
