Eames Names the Day
Today, Robin Eames did what Tony Blair has been avoiding doing all week: of his retirement. The Anglican Primate of All Ireland will step down on December 31. The House of Bishops now need to oversee a stable and orderly transition. There isn't an obvious episcopal equivalent of Gordon Brown waiting in the wings, though the Archibishop of Dublin, John Neill, is at this stage the front-runner. Who would you select as Lord Eame's successor?

Eames was a superb leader within Anglicanism. Hard to follow that act. But please please please let's not have him replaced by a hyper-conservative.
I should like to see Bishop Harold Miller succeed the Archbishop. he is a good, kind intelligent and dynamic man.
Just NOT Bishop Michael Jackson of Clogher .... the most incomprehensible communicator on the planet. And what exactly does he stand for?

Lord Eames was prominent in the selling of the Belfast Agreement, which included the release of hundreds of killers and thugs. His contribution to the COE is to be found in its empty pews.

Whoever succeeds in the Anglican Church is in my thoughts and prayers.

My predictions:
1. John Neill - muggen's turn so will probably get it
2. Ken Clarke - will please moderates and evangelicals and has managed to avoid controversy. Is generally liked personally but lacks a public profile. Compromise candidate
So that's about it then - the church of ireland will elect a successor based on compromise or inertia.
