Verity Murphy | 12:19 UK time, Thursday, 16 June 2011

Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou is set to announce a new cabinet amid tough austerity measures, as MPs from his party convene an emergency meeting.

Will this be enough to ease the fears that Greece will default on its debt which have shaken markets and to end the unrest on the streets? Paul Mason is in Athens and will bring us the latest tonight.

We will also be looking at the promotion of Ayman al-Zawahiri to al-Qaeda leader and reports from the US the Sun is entering a period of "hibernation" with far fewer sunspots than had been expected.

And we have a film on the influential work of Collier Campbell; the award-winning textile design company which turns 50 this year.

"AND TREAT THOSE TWO IMPOSTORS JUST THE SAME!"

Ms Murphy, you have made an old man wryly amused: "We will also be looking at the promotion of Ayman al-Zawahiri to al-Qaeda leader and reports from the US the Sun is entering a period of "hibernation" with far fewer sunspots than had been expected."

IN ONE SENTENCE you have 'touched on' the War on Ephemeral Terror (its new No 1 Bad Guy) a war which brings military prosperity and relatively few home casualties, and Major Solar Change, the consequences of which might well bring REAL TERROR, worldwide; starvation and annihilation to billions.

A better illustration of modern confused thinking is hard to imagine.

The debasement of any highly developed culture starts with immigration. The 麻豆社 panorama programme this evening shown its viewers the difficulties that migrants have in getting here into the UK. The tone of this Panorama programme was very much the horrors that migrants face on their travels over the many borders that they pass, with their hopes for a better life; their desire for human rights and benefits that we offer here in the UK. Rarely do the 麻豆社 make comment on the impact of the settled Britians on immigration on these Islands. Is the Guardian rag and its dangerous agenda for changing British culture steering the 麻豆社 on a high impact collison course to subscription only TV?

#8 Agree with you totally Kev. Was Evan trying to sell us all these fit, able young men, who could have stayed home and built their countries up, instead of pulling ours down?!

Why do the 麻豆社 always ignore their British audience and licence fee payers, are we such trash that only immigrants are the hard done by ones?

Can't wait for the "New Britain" to arise, I'm glad I'll be dead, but pity my younger relatives.

The socialists Greeks may have to learn to live within their means. And maybe start producing stuff people want, that would be a good start because that tourism thing they've got going ain't cutting it. Top heavy public sector industry don't work for any economy - remeber Gordon the Marxist Brown and his policies? ..yeah, they don't work.

Did I hear the words 'Sun' and 'climate change' in the same sentence tonight? I think I did. I nearly fell off my chair..and I wasn't even sitting down. I'm not sure what I was scared with most: the geo engineering idea or the man from Greenpeace. Where did he and the other fella get their qualifications from I'd love to know? When ever I hear of some scientist tagged to climate change, you soon discover they bought their PHDs at the back of some shop in Pittsburg, that two week holiday didn't go to waste eh Mr scientist. Pity you didn't have Al Gorleone on, him from that climate-change-and-create-new-taxes-scam-syndicate.. it could've raised the discussion to comic belly laugh level.

Anyhow, wasn't all bad tonight. The Warkster wore some very nice heels.

    RUNNING SCARED INDEED (#11)

Did I hear Susan explaining that sun spots warm the earth (because they are hotter than spotless sun)?

If that is Flagship 麻豆社 Science, we have cause to be scared.

Oh don't be disheartened Lizzy..the pendulem is already swinging the other way - and doesn't it always swing the other way eventually. The 麻豆社 ain't aware of it though. The left are a minority, and their voice ain't as loud as they used to be. The sentiment you and I share on these matters are popular - though you wouldn't think so when tuned to the 麻豆社 - the straight jacket of PC is coming off, the debate is already out there. And I have a crystal ball ;o) lol x

1st Cavalry heavy division and 3rd corp is been assembled to be deployed in Libya...so I've heard, for sometime in Oct/Nov under NATO command. Well that was always a given. Meanwhile Obama is upsetting congress with his current skirmish in Libya. Leader of the house tells him no more Mr presidente. How does one read between those lines? Meanwhile the Greek domino is about to fall. I suppose everything is in place then...wasn't that always the plan?!
What follows a currency collapse? go on, have a guess. Pull out those dusty history books and see if you can join some dots...can you see a picture forming?

    Have a nice day:)

THE DEBT THAT DARE NOT SPEAK ITS NAME (#18)

Poor 'man-with-no-name' (well, not that you can be sure of) Barack Obama, can never repay those who bought (sic) him to the White House.

You might almost believe he is under orders to ensure Libyan mayhem, from those who will gain thereby. Perhaps 'they' have the original birth certificate to hand?

Nice day?! THE SKY IS FALLING!

    JOB CREATION SCHEME?

    Just found this devastating research

Seems that the initiators of this one have first class honours degrees from the Fawlty Faculty of Any City University in 'Stating the Bleeding Obvious'.

How many man hours and 拢拢拢 did it take to come up with the astonishing data that children who see their parents get pished, stoned or otherwise abuse chemical substances are less than likely to have respect for the substances than those who see more control and containment.

Would it be possible to debate this one without a panel of imbibers who think it's ok, clever, funny and not worth the paper...... or who use phrases like 'it's what we all did when we were their age - lighten up!'

#8 It is 'the government' who want immigration, it doesn't matter who's in power, any talk of cutting down on the numbers coming here is always met with the loudest opposition from big business and the city. The 麻豆社 is complicit in this because its the state broadcaster, its got nothing to do with the Guardian or being 'left wing'.
Try and see the bigger picture.

THE FIRST DRINK - TAKEN SOBER - IS ALWAYS AN ACT OF NEGLIGENCE (#20)

The 'responsible drinker' is an oxymoron. Even those who have proved to themselves that they are not inclined to addiction (HAVING GOT LUCKY) can still retire to bed a little 'incautiously', only to be burgled via an unlocked door, caught in a house fire from an abandoned cigarette - or pregnant!

Further, too many variables impinge on the degree of effect alcohol has, on different occasions. Past performance is no guarantee of future effects. Imbibers can stand up as well as fall down.

In short: it's a poison that behaves like a politician.

HOW MANY BARS IN WESTMINSTER CURRENTLY?

Is not Parliament a sort of 'OverParent' to the nation? How's their drinking?

To be fair, Susan was saying that green house emission was cancelling out the effect of cooling sun spots. She wasn鈥檛 implying climate change and sun spot are the same thing. I found the geo engineering ideas interesting 鈥 especially with the one where you can recycle the CO2 that divers inhale out. It is a little out there, but I think relying on people to cut down energy consumption is even more unrealistic.

"The 'responsible drinker' is an oxymoron." #24

Well, as one who has just enjoyed 'just the one' (and so it shall remain - 1 = slightly relaxed, 2 = giggly, 3 = asleep!- aka cheap date!) small glass of red with my dinner I may lightly disagree with the degree of that tenet whilst holding the precept close.

However, I am not so relaxed as to not be extremely irritated at a foolish sector (aren't they all?) on 'the One Show' (Oh the shame..........) - where mostly young females waiting for the 'Take That' concert were asked how drunk they were going to get tonight. All had glasses in hand that appeared to contain large quantities of alcoholic beverage.

Now perhaps I am the odd one, but it seems pretty stupid to spend a small fortune on tickets for live event just to spend it 3 sheets to the wind. I'd save my pennies and wait for the dvd.
