1Xtra Mixtape Awards - Winners!
We've all been talking about it for ages but today was the day of the 1Xtra first Annual Mixtape awards. Presented by Lupe Fiasco (who flew in from Chicago to do the honours), it celebrated the best in British HipHop and Grime mixtapes from the past 12 months and you lot voted for the winners.

I don't disagree with any of those winners apart from that Baby J geezer, he gets everywhere he does! (only joking J!) Really glad to see Wiley's Gangstaz win best individual track - definitely one of my biggest tracks of 2006. Broke N £nglish definitely deserved mixtape of the year. Was talking to Strategy the other week, watch out for big things from them fellas in 2007.

i don't know, i haven't heard all of them tbh. a good one that i don't think was even nominated (not sure though) was stylah, and grimewave by semtex was good for people getting into grime.
hmmmmmm... when did bless drop? i have a feeling that was bang at the beginning of the year. if that did drop this year and wasn't even included in the voting, the whole thing's worthless imo.... throw a list of nominees up please.
i think there's too many people getting props for using a business plan that holds everyone else back though.... that goes something like:
flood the market with tape after tape, sell to the same loyal people every time, rather than having quality control and putting out a bullet proof product, then trying to push it to new people. so american hip hop fans, or ukhh fans checking a grime tape, or grime heads checking a ukhh tape just hear a sub-par product and get put off.
out of all the stuff that won, i really liked terra firma though, except the ott number of skits.
also... i haven't heard the mixtape, and i do love the guys... and i know tyrin got rinsed on 1X and they fill in for dj's.... but i can't imagine too many 1x listeners owning terms and conditions. every winner's grime plus TF who get love from the grime scene... then it's broke n english?
Gangsterz is a good tune but there have been out there for hip hop. His other track Checkmate is ill! Heavy tune.
Mistajam, perhaps you can answer this question - mixtape related. Track 20 of the Baby J mixtape FTP - the Rukus joint, I recognise the production from a hip hop track that was out in the last two years. If you are able to ID the track, much appreciated.
the only ukmixtape I've heard is L . man's Impatiently Waiting. I got interested in him after I saw him at Ghostface's London show in October. I'm glad he won best newcomer

in my own opinion uk hip hop has been sorta shadowed by the grimes popularity as its more hyped up and loved by the youngens. MKs and DJ IQs mixtpaes where bangin this year, Verb T & Harry Love, Yungun, aint even spoke of, when i think that they show more creativity, better concepts, and better instrumentation, i do not know anyone thats bought a JME mixtape yet i know more than enuff peeps rollin with the bot better know Tshirt on..i g2g quick! end of lesson!
So what happened to awarding Loudmouth? I mean best new commer award for L Dot Man... maybe in 2003 when he was new but not in 07...

No one member of 1Xtra staff or any single 1Xtra deejay decided the winners of the awards It was a democracy - person with the most votes in each category won.

I think the awards were good I think Bigz, S4DK and Sincere should have been nominated though.
Bigz cd was massive sway, wretch, ghetto, terri walker, sugababes, grit boys, jme and man shined differently.

Also S4dk mixtapes are very big there nominated for Justo's mixtape awards but didn't get a look in.
Just shows how wack the Uk is right now.
Most of the nominees wouldn't get on Jedi Mind tricks mixtape.

Shrek back - your preferred friendly search engine should help you track down the mixtapes in question. The majority of the artists in question have myspace sites and there are a number of wrecka stows that stock mixtapes. How's Colleen?

nice to see the british artists getting ther own awards without having to take the yanks into consideration . It would have been nice if Pro Green had walked away with best new comer but it was a tough catagory !

Hey, I have a question for you, I think earlier in 2006 the U.K. had and award show where 50 cent got beat out for an award for best artist of the year by a guy who is pretty hot. I forgot he name, who was it. Thanx Homie.
