To Whoever is Out There

Paul Sartin of writes:

I've just finished a day teaching kids in Andover primary schools about their local music traditions and heritage. What a contrast to the Bellowhead tour, only three days hence. Or is it?

On the one hand, a captive audience, who didn't pay to get in, who have no preconceptions about traditional music, and who (I hope) haven't been drinking.

On the other hand, a group who, once their attention is captured, become infected with the stories and tunes of folk music and who eventually become unstoppable in their enthusiasm. Sounds like a Bellowhead audience - or even Bellowhead itself . . .

Still, back to reality, a refreshing sorbet-like cleanser after the sordid and unhealthy fortnight on the road. I fess up to being worn out - I've been going to bed before midnight all week, and have even made it into my pj's - but actually, what a fortnight! The crowds were fab, the music felt good, especially with the challenge of new material, and to be frank, who could ask for more? I hear on the grapevine that young Sweeney has said it was the best two weeks of his life (he really ought to get out more).

And where now for 'The Head'? A couple of months of R 'n R I reckon, and some working out so that we can manage our dance routines (obviously highly rehearsed and polished) with a bit more aplomb. Health farms? Plastic surgery?

Once we've got over this stint, I think the band as an entity feel really encouraged by the reception we were given, and let's face it, we are nothing without the punters. Even my Mum enjoyed herself. I for one have been inspired to get off my lazy (but trim) backside and put even more into the band, so thanks to all of you who gave us so much back, and watch this space. Who knows, by the time we return we may all once more be pictures of blooming good health, bronzed and muscled Adonis, strapping examples of youthful virility, etc etc.

And that's just Rachael.

Good night

Paul.
