Wins show we're no 'big girl's blouses'

It's amazing what a couple of positive results do for your football club. Everyone is walking around with a smile on their face and a spring in their step, the supporters are hanging around after games chatting away to the players and even the chairman has been back to his normal self the last couple of weeks.

I've never really noticed it too much until recently, but us players achieve on the park really affect everyone associated with the club. That's possibly more to do with the fact that I've been playing a lot of games this season. I've noticed how people's attitude towards you alters depending on how you've done on the park on a Saturday.

I don't think I noticed it too much last year because I was so far out of the picture, so it was the same old thing for me most weeks. But, now that I'm playing, it's incredible how things change in and around the club depending on results and performances.

There are obviously different people coming to watch our games now from when we were in the , as well as the supporters who have been watching us for years, and I think expectations are sometimes too high.

A lot of supporters may not have been familiar with the players before we came in to the . To put things into perspective; from our starting line-up against on Tuesday night, we had eight players who were playing in the EOS less than two years ago and two of those were in the same league only last season.

Make no mistake about it, this is a tough league and without disrespect to our former league, it's a lot tougher and, in many ways, this year has been so much harder than our debut season. A couple of things have let us down this season so far and they have been scoring goals and a bit of inconsistency and I put that down to the players still coming to terms with the demands of the SFL.

I've mentioned before about the need for each player to be on their game and concentrating 100% from the first whistle to the last and this is an aspect of our game the manager continues to drill into us. I think we're getting there and hopefully, since the game, when we let the club and the supporters down, we have shown that and will continue to do so against this weekend.

I was informed by Graeme Bell's father after the game that we have never won three games in a row in the SFL. I have to say I wasn't too surprised to hear that, but I thought our performance against last night certainly merited a change in that statistic. After a really poor start going up the hill, we got our act together and should have taken three points from the game.

That's the last two games I've been trying to get to shoot down the hill in the first half, but he's just not for it. I always feel it takes us about 20 minutes to get to grips with the game going up the hill in the first half and we sit far too deep, so it's difficult for us to press the game. Fair play to big Nelly, though, we've taken four points from the six available, so I shouldn't really argue.

I have to say that everyone at the club was really disappointed to read the comments from the Shire manager, , after our third victory of the season against them on Saturday. I think it says a great deal about our manager when declined to comment on opposition players. Yet, according to their manager, they were better than us even with 10 men, the players got their man sent off and our defenders were "big girl's blouses".

The club are holding a race night after the Elgin game this weekend and all the players and coaches will be in attendance to help raise funds for the club. It gives the boys a chance to get everyone together for a few beers and a flutter, but I can assure you we'll only enjoy ourselves if we get a positive result beforehand.

I'd like to finish this week by saying good luck to at the beginning of what is hopefully a bright new era and also to wish young a successful recovery from his horrific leg break at the weekend. Ramsey is a fantastic prospect and is young enough to recover from such a terrible injury to fulfil the promise he so obviously has.

scottish third division defenders are "big girl's blouses"? i'd hate to hear what he has to say about English Premier League ones or, god forbid, Portugese centre backs.

Belly's dad is misinformed, we won three SFL games in a row last March - Elgin 6-0 (h), Cowdenbeath 3-1 (h) & Dumbarton 2-0(a).
Our best run in the league is seven games undefeated which started with a 0-0 draw away to Stenhousemuir the week before the Elgin victory.
A similar run to last season will do nicely!!

At the risk of sounding very silly here (sorry, I know nothing about Annan's ground at all), when you say 'up the Gladbank hill' do you mean just shooting towards a certain end of the ground or is the ground itself actually built on a slight incline favouring one side of the pitch?

(As I said, sorry if this is a very stupid question, the turn of phrase you have used just puzzled me thats all!)

I read McInallys comment in the paper on Sunday, boo hoo him. He wants to dry his eyes.

He was the same when we played them at Annan when he was (supposed) to be banned from the touchline - while he was hanging into the dugout over the fence. All he did was moan on like a brat. More like Kevin from the Harry Enfield show than a 3rd div manager.

It’s never a good idea for managers to be disrespectful towards opponents. Mark McGhee said a few silly things in his post match interview following Aberdeens lucky draw with Raith Rovers at Starks park in the cup. Needless to say, justice was done in the replay at Pittodrie, John McGlynn no doubt using McGhee’s comments to fire the team up. Good luck to the Rovers in their Quarter final tie at Dundee!

#2 - thanks for putting me right Chairman!

#3 - there actually is an incline on our pitch - needless to say you only really notice it when your shooting up the way!
