All White Everyone!

Chris Evans | 12:35 UK time, Monday, 8 March 2010

So we're back - and how good did it feel?

Plus God gave us a Heaven sent morning with which to celebrate.

There's a picture of me in the papers today where I look 130 years old with white hair and blue lips.

It was taken outside my house on Saturday, after I had been driving a car with the roof down for an hour. I have since checked and have decided today is a good day, as I only look around 60 - oh alright then, 65.

In my garage writing my second book. A lot of the big heavy content out of the way, so may jump around a bit to more recent goings on - lots of stories there too !

Give my regards to the young people,

Grandad Lambie Pie.

Chris, I have checked the photo out and yes it is a bit unfortunate they caught you at that moment, perfect for them though to catch you at your worst.

Whilst I am at it, "Leaked figures reveal that about 6.9million have been tuning in each weekday, after Wogan averaged 7.7million.", the way this has been said in the article is as if 6.9 million listeners is not a lot, that is a hell of a lot of people - well done to you and the team!

Lovely to have you back Chris. Loved the Grandad photo!!

Hope you managed to avoid the blooming potholes on your drive out. My poor car has got to go and have a new tyre fitted this afternoon thanks to a sneaky pothole that appeared from nowhere! That's what Mr Mcw said- he was driving! I think that if you pay road tax, the revenue should go to pay for the upkeep of our roads, and not into the great yawning hole that is our national debt! Our roads are a disgrace, don't think I ever remember them being this bad. Thinking about trading the car in for a tractor! How do you manage driving around in your treasures?

    Welcome back Chris!

The week has started better already - feel full of energy today! So good to have you back in my mornings! Only one tiny wee criticism....I keep missing my train as I can't tear myself away from the radio!

Morning blog folk - hope you all had good weekends. Mr P and I had a very relaxing couple of days at the country retreat although it was freezing! Thank heavens for the woodburner. The neighbours cat decided to move in so our cat-free weekend did not go quite to plan.

Uncle Carl - do hope you are on the road to recovery. Maybe Mr Maxford could give us a status bulletin later today.

CLP, Welcome back. I hope you arent taking to heart the biased reporting of a daily rag that is fast becoming no better than the other gutter press.

There are far more of us that love the show so keep it up.

MCW, I had a run in with a pothole last year which cost me £280 for a tyre and a new alloy. Council's response to me claim?

"We check the roads one a month and mend pot holes so we believe we are meeting out charter and so are rejecting your claim."

That fact that the same holes had to be filled EVERY month doesnt count it would appear. They have a tick in the box.
Last month they finally did extensive work on the raod in question and withing a week a new hole appeared a foot away from the new surface!!

    Hope everyone is well,

    Thunder

Welcome back CLP - thoroughly enjoyed my week off with Mr Allinson, but good to have you back! Kids were very pleased to have the sing-along-bits back!

Beautiful weekend down here in Dorset - spent yesterday walking through snowdrop-filled woods...fantastic!

  • Comment number 11.

Hello everybody peeps and welcome back Chris - I had a veritable spring in my step this morning thanks to your cheerful broadcast.

8 comments? - a lot more manageable than a thousand and odd. might be able to join in a bit more - i struggled to keep up last week.

Anyhoo, potholes shmotholes - who cares Christy Evans is back on the radio! ;) Joking aside, they are a blimmin' hazard especially when there are dipsticks who swerve out of the way onto the other side of the road at the last min to avoid them.

    Well back to the grind.

    Cheerio for now.

    GailyB :)

  • Comment number 12.

Those ranty pants can be a tad restrictive Thunder!

I feel a bit shonky at the mo - I've received a "thanks but no thanks" letter for one of the jobs I was interviewed for the other Friday. Ironic thing is, I'm not even sure I wanted the job but felt to confident of getting called back for a 2nd interview. Getting the letter, having it in writing, has totally knocked me bandy.

  • Comment number 13.

#8 I don't think we are alone in this Thunder. The potholes apparently cost £70 each to refill, only to pop out weeks later! Some of the roads round here have deteriorated so badly that the whole surface has crumbled. I'm keeping my ranty pants on with this one!!

    Welcome back Chris,

I was going to say what #2 said but, as usual, she beat me to it! lol...Great minds...
I had a quick squint at the Wail on Sunday whilst at my mum's yesterday, which suggested that Moira is getting some ridiculous amount of money per show...it actually made me laugh at the ridiculousness of it! Listened at slightly different times to the show today, due to NHS appointment, which has now had to be deferred until next week, as there wasn't anybody in the hospital available for me! At least we didn't hit any potholes though!

Yes, the DM must have been delighted to get that photo of you - it is a pathetic excuse for a newspaper.

It's wonderful to have you all back - I couldn't wait for 7.05 today. Your show is just what we need at ChezS to get us moving in the mornings - the three of us absolutely love it. Even Lynn sounded back to her usual self, she seemed quite lost last week!

Anyway, try not to be too downhearted, sounds like you've got a good fella there and that counts for a heck of a lot. Fingers crossed for something good coming along soonly.

    Afternoon all,

Chris, I reckon those miserable photo snappers are just jealous. Like the rotten lot that like to take photo's of glam celebrities first thing in the morning or without makeup etc. Chris keep on doing what you're doing. Even if I can't listen live, I do try and catch up on iplayer!

Pot holes. When the snow plows were out earlier this year, big chunks of tarmac got plowed up as well as the snow. Now spring finally seems to trying to say hello I'll be interested to see how long it takes to get the roads fixed!

Deevs - Sorry you didn't get the job - it's just because the perfect job is somewhere else. Good luck with the hunting, don't let it get you down, keep on smiling and count the interviews and second interviews as successes.

Glad to see the sun shining today, have been feeling a bit poorly and sorry for myself so it's nice to see blue skies.

    Dragonxx

  • Comment number 24.

Sorry to hear that Deevs - they are the ones losing out! From what I recall, this is your first job hunting in a while - takes a while to get back into it. Each interview helps to hone the skills - you will get there!

On a positive, at least you got a letter. When I was contracting, I often heard nothing and would spend hours chasing agencies. I finally learned that silence = no. Bit rude, I always thought so now, when I am recruiting, I make sure all candidates get full feedback.

AND - don't talk to me about potholes! We hit one in the autumn that was so deep it ripped the exhaust pipe off. Councils response - "we put a traffic cone in the hole to highlight it". We said "there was no cone". Council said "well, we put one there so someone must have stolen it. That's always happening. But, as we had put a cone there, you can't claim". What a shower.

Ranty pants off, happy pants back on

    Afternoon everybody.

Just looked at the pic CLP - Yes you did look a bit old there but the thing I noticed was that you were wearing the same shirt last week as you did on your first day on breakfast.

I note that the daily wail did not take into account the cold weather etc nor did they think about the fact that the pic with you and Tash was taken last week - therefore you could not have aged that much in a matter of days......

If you were to add up the total content of Â鶹Éç 1, 2, 3 and 4 and then add on to that Radio 1, 2, 3, 4, 6Music and then on to that all the local Â鶹Éç radio stations and then on to that the informative and wide ranging website, and then to divide all of that by your license fee, I think you will find that the amount you are "forced" to pay for a two and a half hour broadcast is a small fraction of a penny.

I am not, therefore, convinced that you hold sufficient shares in the Chris Evans Breakfast Show to be so rude.

KW - good luck with the exam - no problems hon - you will sail it. Is it really two years - my goodness - wasn't lurking at the time but went back to read the lovely comments. Great bunch on here A? Good to cherish the happy memories.

Rosie - agree with JG - much better system with the house stuff in Scotland - good luck tomorrow and see you in Glasgow.

Seza - I tried hitting the button to switch from the stoopid western to Clooney and Zeta Jones on 3 but it was noticed! Never mind - he will be going to his pit soon.

Annie - awaiting meeting info from Mary about the Saturday but we are around on the Sunday. Making a long week-end and not coming back until Monday. That is if I get my backside in gear and book everything in the next couple of days! Hotel would be a good start!

D/W just loaded Bids - hope you enjoyed your meal out.

Chris, if you read this, don't worry about the photo, you look very much like me and I'm not 60 yet, but at least you've got more hair.

I thought you were having a re-think about the Breakfast show during the break? It was all a bit samey what I heard today, much of it is, well, drivel, isn't it? And it's cheesy music.

Maybe we should have a better track list of easy listening, stop the Monday Beatles, forget the phone-ins, texts, e-mails, STOP THE SHOUTING, and let's just chill in the morning with Ella Fitzgerald and Diana Krall.

    Please.
