Yesterday morning...

Chris Evans | 07:58 UK time, Monday, 26 October 2009

...I found myself sitting in a spot in the garden, which was already whispering to me this is the spot from where I shall contemplate what has gone on in my life, before finally saying goodbye...Over several years of happy retirement first hopefully...

And do you know what? I didn't mind one bit. In fact it was a sincerely calming and liberating moment.

It does of course mean we can never sell the house. D'oh.

In other news, one of my waking thoughts was: are there still SPUD-U-LIKES? Because I haven't seen one for ages.

44 DRIVE TIMES to go - and counting.

CLP - thanks for the welcome and early morning blog!

If its any consolation i know where I want my ashes scattered and I'm not yet 30 - but then I have always planned ahead ;-)

Glad to see you had a great weekend - we are still waiting to know what you have planned for my birthday - and the drive time big goodbye party.

  • Comment number 3.

    Morning Christoff,

If you intend to sit in the garden and contemplate what has gone on in your life....you're gonna need more than several years if the contents of your book are anything to go by.

Add to that - how many more memories will be stored away in the old noggin between now and retirement.

You probably need to retire next year!

    Hope not though.

Hope the glorious weather over the Chilterns is spreading as far as your garden.

PS - Enough with the car pictures.....I cannae take it no more!
PPS - I have seen a SPUD-U-LIKE recently, gawd knows where though!

    Morning Chris

It sounds like you are in harmony with life and that is wonderful place to be!

I think you will look back and have plenty of moments to think about and fill your thoughts - perhaps you will occassionaly blog about them.

It is quite good thinking of of us entering our 3rd age together.....

Morning Christoph, what lovely thoughts on this beautiful autumnal morning. I want to say I have taken you to bed with me over the last 2 weeks and it's been terrific! THE BOOK of course and I'm nearing the end but I don't want it to end and I don't want to have to wait a whole year for more of you. What's a gal to do?!?!

Spud-u-likes? No idea if they're still around.

    Morning everyone else.

    Hey Rips, baggy and cathmel...&CLP

It is nice having a special spot. A few years ago I told my son I'd like my ashes scattered at a beach where there are cliffs and rockpools but wanted bits of me over it all. He solved the problem by suggesting he attach my ashes to a helium balloon & take pot shots at it as it floated above waves!!
As you can tell, he was devastated at the thought of my passing :)

Hope everyone has a nice contemplative Monday.

"44 DRIVE TIMES to go - and counting."....I guess that's the number of shows left I'll listen to. I missed JW for ages but really liked you at the same time. Grew to love you, still love JW. However, judging by shows during your absence recently and, indeed, other times, I could never grow to like, let alone love, SM. So it's goodbye from her and goodbye from me.

  • Comment number 8.

morning Jules - kids dont you just love them!!!

  • Comment number 9.

    Hi Jules,

    How thoughtful! Haha

I would like mine scattered on Coombe Hill. It's just down the road with views over most of the Chilterns and next door to Chequers.
I love the idea of keeping an eye on the incumbent Prime Minister.

PS - Sorry to those who dislike it....but

CLP has just posted a pic on Twitter from his garage overlooking some sunbathed lawns with his 250GT in the foreground and a lap top on his desk - his words:
"Oh oh - here we go again. Part deux - day one. Nervous and excited."

    The next book begins......can't wait!

44 Drivetimes & we get to wake up with you, I am really looking forward to that on the dark winter mornings. If that doesn't brighten us up, nothing will

    Mornin' Plato.

Ah yes. Contemplatin' the navel at the bottom of me own garden (which is actually a graveyard overlookin' the Irish Sea, next stop Morecambe, hurrah,) in Termonfeckin, County Louth, is exactly where I want to pop me clogs. Then once they've filleted me a bit, the GD can take what remains and chuck it off the Empire State Building to the tune of Blaze Away. Hurrah can't wait. Er..no, hang on.. hm.

As for Spud-U-Like.. it's alive an' well an' in Limerick. Where there's also a Chinese takeaway called Soon Fatt. Marvellous.

    Morning Chris,

It's good to have these things sorted out in advance, like where you are going to spend eternity! As for spudulikes (didn't Victoria Wood do a sketch on those once? Something about a potato filling! Made me chuckle at the time).

Happy Anniversary to Beez and Billie and a Happy Birthday to my Big Brother (46 today), I am sure he won't mind me telling everyone that.

Really sorry I can't make the mini blog meet tonight, I could just do with some fajitas (sp). Let's try and sneek another one in before the dreaded "C" word!

Beautiful day in Kent, although I am feeling slightly wobbly today! My head seems to follow a few seconds after my body - what's that all about.

    Hi Chris,

Lot to think about in today's blog! I know MrS and I are still "relatively young" at 52 and 55, but time is moving on and one has to face the fact that the main part of our lives together (33 years) has passed. It's a very sobering thought ..... pass the wine, please!

Lyndyloo: I am so happy for you - Daniel has arrived, and you are over the moon! How fantastic that you could blog today - you already sound a very "together" mummy! Enjoy it all, it's an incredible journey through life.

Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Beez - 25 years, a very special landmark! And also congrats to Mr & Mrs Billie.

Re: Spud-U-Likes: I could never eat a baked potato with a filling. I like the potato, but any filling must be on the side - ham & tomato or prawns and salad. Can't imagine eating one with baked beans! Aaarrggh!

    Happy Monday everyone.

    C xx

Has no one else googled Spud-U-Like? No? Only me then.

Am glad to see Spud-U-Like still going strong in Baaaasildn, scene of many teeange raids on the Top Shop Bargain Rail!!

Also, if there are 44 Drivetimes left, that takes us clear through to Christmas Eve (sorry Beez). Wasn't Chris having another week off before then? Good news if he's not!

D'yer know what? I think I need to get out more!! ;-)

I am happy to confirm that there is still a Spud-U-Like at the Merry Hill Centre in Dudley.

Other comestibile provision choices are also available :-)

just slept through a whole day - hahahahahahahahahahahahahhahaha

just woke up (6.30pm) after a massive night on the tile here in Taiwan - met some amazing peeps last night - had pizza (yummy) drank waaaaaaaaay too much beer that was paid for by my agent, watched the footie (still can't recall who won - Liverpool or the villains of Manc?), managed (somehow) to find my hotel again and then sank into bed.....a slept through the whole day...luckily no meetings to attend today.

    Brill.

Also had a senior moment this evening - bought myself some noodles in a bowl - like a pot noodle (other filthy msg snacks are available) - and had a hell of a time getting the wrapping off....does this happen to everyone? Noticed it happening a lot lately - that CD I bought - a packet of crisps - my last girlfriend - huge trouble unwrapping them.....

Don't envy you that journey Rips, drive safely!

Lyndy, well done for blogging so soon, and glad you and baby Daniel are home. I haven't been able to access the photo's properly yet.

For goodness sake dont go to Gloucester. They have their "C" lights up already!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The labour costs are cheaper in October apparently.

Sorry folks, took me long enough to get home! It seems forever since I last drove in the dark, although it can't be!!

First day back was...interesting, as usual tonnes of emails and loads of stuff dumped in my cupboardto deal with.

Deev, my photos are always set at max res, but they still upload to FB - apparently FB "adjusts" them automatically.

Thunder !!! Noooooo !! going down there to put the whole town on the norty step! Went to take post tonight (refused to pick up iron!!) and temp on car said 14 deg. outside! Sincerely hope they haven't switched on yet!

JG - first time tonight since had car been in it for any time in the dark (I wasn't actually driving all the time - chatting on hands free but parked up anyway) Tend to do that if conversation can be distracting!!! Didn't realise - like a plane cockpit with all the lights!!!

Cath - I'm curious too - like a disaster zone is our Bingo!!!

Just off to see if I can get on fb and have a stir of me sauce - laters...

Cor blimey, its such a mild night outside. Just been for a lovely run in the moonlight. Got home and sat in the garden, got me noculars out so i could have a good look at the moon. Really shiny and bright tonight .

Hope everyone is ok and managed to get home ok in the dark.

Hi MC, it is mild isn't it!

Sorry, but won't be joining you in any running though!

Bez, my car seems to have a life of it's own in the dark, wing mirrors that move when reversing to aid vision, and the appropriate front fog light comes on to help see where to park when in 1st gear and turning the steering wheel! Oh, and still can't turn the passenger seat seat-belt thing off, even a wine box deserves a seatbelt accordingly to Mercedes apparently!!

Mind you, can't fault them on that I suppose!! lol

    JG,

Mercedes seem to have got their priorities right then !

Called at the Audi garage on saturday, had to lock myself in the car, there were some serious beauties calling to me .

    Aye Carumba

I have had a lovely evening with Debs & Deevs and the advantage to arranging a restaurant 5 mins from home is I'm already here with my feet up!

Debs says hi to all but wi fi at hotel in meltdown so out of contact (personally I think it's an excuse to spend an uninterrupted evening with Edward Cullen of Twilight fame!)
